Pankaj-conservation architect

Dear Kavita

I was browsing through the blog section, I really agree to what 'Chandu",
Chandrashekhar is talking about - the purpose and objective of this documentation.
As you have mentioned this project can take many directions, thus there is a greater
need to have a crystal clear objective.

What CHandu has suggested makes it a very interesting and informative documentary
and that which is widely available to various audiences, however, there is a 'hell'
lot of research this initiative will lead to. With the time frame you have in mind I
guess it would be difficult.

Taking a lead from your mails, 'Awareness', yes, to me this could be the need of the
day. The number of bungalows are being wiped out day by day.

So how do we communicate the need to preserve this heritage of ours. Just giving a
lead here - probably we need to bring in the 'relevance' of these structures for
today which could be through - their identity in the architectural features, the
structural systems and the materials (which are local resources - this can be done
through an interview of some good structural engineer with a sensitivity to such
things), the planning which is relevant to the local climatic conditions and finally
the possibility to adapt these structures to modern uses in order to preserve them.
In the last case, a documentation of the building which has retained its original
fabric but however has been able to become part of todays lifestyle can be more
inspiring and carry a message to many that it is still possible to preserve our
bungalows/heritage.

Kavita, I am sorry for throwing in more at this stage of the project where you have
probably even finalised the structure, but I felt in necessary to bring in my above
views after reading through the blogs.

All the best
Regards
Pankaj
